So with all this talk of an overgrown 500 being the next Jeep...

I ask, would a more "car-like" Jeep be any more blasphemous? In all seriousness, with their off-road chops, I think Jeep should take the Dart and make a rally king WRX-killer. That would be so awesome to see.

As long as they have as much freedom with the platform as they did with the Cherokee's, I think at the very least it will be an interesting vehicle.

Why does that car have a volume control on the side?

The New Cherokee is essentially based on the dart. If Jeep made a "car" that was labled a car (and not a soft roader) that could compete with the WRX or STI or Evo I would be all for it. But the direction they are taking things now just makes me want to kill kittens.

They need to revive AMC and make some sweet AWD rally machines and call them eagles or something.

What is with this whole we are not making trucks that do truck things. If I wanted a car like ride I would buy a car. I do a lot of camping and I need a truck or SUV that can perform Off road. Right now I have to pay an arm and leg for a good SUV or buy an older model. WTF American car makers? Get with it.

That would be the perfect name for the rally car. The Jeep Eagle. No need to revive an extra marquee for it. If they can sell a jacked up 500L as a Jeep, they can make a legit car and market it as a Jeep.

They make a Grand Cherokee SRT, and they could make a Cherokee SRT, a car they wont make.

Where does this fit in with regards to the Compass and Patriot? Below them, or as a replacement to them?

Building a Jeep on the 500L platform is fine, as long as it doesn't end up too girly. They've set the precedent already that a FWD-biased AWD system is acceptable, so we can assume this will be the same. Will it be pretty much a mini-Cherokee? If so, I think it will sell well if priced low enough, without coming off as cheap.

I think the new Cherokee is the replacement for the Liberty and the Patriot. The new 500-based "Jeepster" will essentially be a repacement for the Compass. My idea would slot in around the same price as Cherokees, 22-32k, and would offer an alternative to the Cherokee as a vehicle with more sporty intentions.

My scale would cover the following:

Jeep Eagle Base - 22k - 220hp version of the TigerShark 2.4 hooked up to a 6-speed and AWD.

Jeep Eagle Limited - 25k - Same powertrain, but with more lux features (sunroof, alcantara trimmed seats and steering wheel, LEDs)

Jeep Eagle Trailhawk - 28k - Fully stripped and single-minded version. 3000 lbs even, and engine upgraded to 240hp.

SRT Eagle - 32k - Turbo version of the 2.4 good for 310hp, with either a 6MT or 8AT offered. Still going through an AWD system, but with adjustable differentials.

The 500L starts at 19k for a FWD manual version with the 1.4L / 160HP engine. Call the Jeepster with the same specs $19,995, simply so they can advertise it as starting under $20k. That leaves you roughly $2k less across the board than a larger, more powerful, but comparable trim level Cherokee. Remember, add $1k to the base price for the auto that 98% of them will sell with.

Not sure how well received it will be at that price.

I'm not saying the Eagle would be based on the 500. The Eagle would be based on the Dart, and a completely different vehicle from the new 500-based Jeepster.
